Tuesday's Around the World

Thought I'd link up today for Communal Global. I love this meme, which allows us to take a peek at what others are up to around the world. There are always so many gorgeous photos and I love seeing snippets of life around the globe.

I'm sharing this pic of my soon to be 5 year old. His birthday is this Thursday. He's growing up so fast and it makes my heart hurt. At the same time, I am so very proud of the little person he is becoming. He has a great big heart, adores his baby sister, idolizes his older brother and can lighten any mood. His wonderful, quirky sense of humor brightens up my world and his laugh is always infectious.

Last night when I was tucking him in bed, I told him stories about when he was born, and how each of us welcomed him to the family. We talked about what he meant to us, how each family member reacted, and how we cherished those moments. I could see the joy in his eyes and how he was touched to hear how special he was to us.

With three other siblings, I sometimes worry that my kids will feel neglected, so I try to be sure spread the love and attention equally. I know it's important to spend a few minutes of one on one time like we did last night.

How do you make sure your kids don't feel lost in the shuffle?

  1. OH Melissa, this photo is GORGEOUS. What a sweet sweet post as well! I always wonder about not having enough quality time w/ having another baby. I can only imagine all the love that siblings creates SO overturns having enough time, or having them feel like they're lost in the shuffle. I'm sure your babies know just how important they are, & how much their mama LOVES them!

  2. That is beautiful! Since I had just two kids, it was easier for me to divide my time. When she was home, she was pretty full of life and presence, but when she was gone, I so loved having those times to spend with my quieter son. :)

  4. This is so sweet. It is so important to give them each that individual attention. Ours have issues with sharing us & being left out when one is getting attention. We have to plan for it & make sure everyone is getting their time.

  5. I give then individual time every day, maybe just 10 minutes sometimes but that seem to make them happy. And I cuddle with them in their bed for a while every evening, that´s so cozy for us all! I love the portrait, beautiful capture!

  6. I love the processing on this one. It enhances the story :) Sometimes it is really hard to divide the time. Now that they are getting older I try to take one of them with me if I'm running to the store, or going for a walk. My husband will take one of them along to work sometimes. They love those times when they have us to themselves don't they?
