My less than 6 month old 2T back up drive has decided it's corrupt, so I also have a snafu on my hands. Fortunately, it looks like all my data (1.3 T of pics!) is recoverable. Whew! But, I'll have to be more careful from here on out and back up my back ups regularly. Since my RAW files are so big, I generally bypass my computer's hard drive and upload straight to my main external hard drive through Lightroom. Then my computer's hard drive (and any current edited photos) gets backed up weekly onto a Time Machine Capsule. At the end of each month I drop my file of edited photos onto my main hard drive to archive them.
I have another external hard drive that's smaller, but to be honest, I haven't been using it to back up my main external hard drive. I've considered on online service, but haven't been diligent about getting anything set up. Big mistake.
So tell me. What's your back up plan? Do you have a system that's easy to set up and use?
On that note, I haven't spent as much time shooting or editing as I would like. I have gone through most of my pics from the 3 month old shoot I did on Tuesday, however, so today I'm sharing a favorite from that shoot. Love, love, love soft squishy babies ;)
Linking up with Kim and Lisa today.
Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a super Labor Day weekend!
what a little beauty!! love the black and white too!
ReplyDeletesorry about your trouble with your hard drive! i always back up to my hard drive, but i'm not so good at backing that up. and thanks for the reminder, my Time Machine Capsule has been delayed for a few months, I guess I better look into why that is and get it straightened out!
I love the softness of that pic! SO beautiful! And I also upload through LR and then pic through my faves, edit and then save to an external. I try not to save that many pics to my computer because this thing is iffy. I am saving for a new one, eventually, haha. But at least you recovered them!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your issues. That is always a devastating feeling!!! I typically upload to my computer (but then again- I don't shoot RAW) and then I immediatley back up to my web albums both on Picasa & on Snapfish. I never delete from my card until I know that they are at least in the cloud - even though when they upload they are reduced in size I at least would still have them. Then I keep just 1 month's images on my computer & then they get transferred to the external & deleted off the hard drive. I keep feeling like I should do more though.
ReplyDeleteLove the photo in black and white. Sorry about your computer issues...UGH!! But your work on the baby is lovely.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Do you have an option to compress your raw files in camera? I know my D700 does. They are still raw files and I haven't noticed a bit of difference, but they are about 30-40% smaller. I read about it on Ken Rockwell's site and he personally recommends it and uses it. Allows more photos on a CF card, too. :)
ReplyDeleteSorry about your tech troubles. That stinks.
ReplyDeleteLove the beautiful picture...pure sweetness.
I love the angle you choose for this shot and it looks beautiful in black and white. I have an online backup, but I am trusting CD's and flash drives for originals. Glas it was all recoverable!
