We are getting ready to venture out on a 15 hour road trip with three kids. Crazy??? Maybe. My question is: got any tips for traveling with kids and staying sane?
I always bring a ton of the Crayola no mess markers and new coloring books, and a DVD player {but lil' D usually watches only a little and turns it off}. We have some kiddies CD's like Kidz Bop, we all sing along to them, and play "I Spy" games. Aloha and take care. -Kiki
Remember when you were little and we did this trip? I wrapped little toys and things to do in the car and gave you each one every couple of hours. Bet it still works!

Well ~ LOL ~ Kids are now 29 & 30, but we moved cross country several times. I just got some Rubbermaid/Tupperware type containers - shoebox size and filled with all sorts of little goodies, games snacks - and they loved it and kept occupied for hours! Of course, now I guess people would say, just buy the little tv's and play movies all the way from coast to coast - ha!!
Movies, games, coloring books, kids music, Nintendo DS... We travel a lot and all those things worked out pretty good for us. We were on the road pretty much for 2 years before we came to the mission field.
Been there & done that! Only not w/ three. We just have two but I've done it several times. Our shortest trip is now 17 hrs but it used to be 2 1/2 days.
Dvd players & new movies. Live savors. Also bring old favorites too. I make a bag for each day on the road w/ different things. Snacks & projects, books etc...
My cousin had an interesting idea - she went to the dollar store beforehand and got some little toys, activities, and treats, then every 2 hrs (or hour, depending on your taste) during the trip she'd announce it was time to open something new. (And put away the old toys.) It kept the kids focused on something other than "Are we there yet?"

I also used to make little bags for each day of the trip. Art projects or band aids & baby wipes depending on the age. Baby wipes will get you a solid 30 min @ least as they wipe down everything in sight!
Definitely movies. Old & new. Snacks & those crayola markers that don't mark on anything but the paper. Priceless.
We do not have a portable DVD player, so movies are never a possibility for us. We usually have lots of MP3's to sing to, books, Nintendo DS for older son, flashcards, snacks and other items that the kids like that are easy to use in the car. Good luck!

Bring lots of toys and snacks to keep them occupied. Make sure you hand them out one at a time so they don't get bored with everything all at once. As a last resort, just remember that you'll never see those other passengers again! LOL!

Books on dvd, lots of snacks, and silly kid music.
I have a video game nut (he's 10) so the way we stay sane in the car is to let him play his Nintendo DS while we're riding.
